Casa Hogar Los Angelitos (CHLA) is a unique children’s home dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing environment for children from infancy and up. Our mission is to help each child, regardless of previous circumstances, reach their full potential and dreams. We aim to break the cycle of poverty by offering 24-hour care, emotional, mental, and medical support, education, spiritual guidance, and classes in English and Expressive Arts.
CHLA opened its doors in 1996 with 7 children in a storefront in Manzanillo, Mexico. In 1995, before CHLA was officially open, a soup kitchen was started to help feed children living on the streets or in extreme poverty. The catalyst for intervening for the children of Mexico by founder Nancy Nystrom was the deep grief she experienced after the death of her son. Through that difficult journey, she felt God’s call to make a difference in the world around her.
CHLA is a Civil Association (non-profit) under Mexican law. It is not a religious or government organization. CHLA’s major funding comes from individuals, businesses, fundraising events, grants, and service clubs.
We provide a secure, nurturing home for children, ensuring their safety and stability. Our family-like setting offers 24-hour care, emotional support, and a sense of belonging.
Our educational programs prepare children for a successful future, offering them the tools and opportunities to excel academically and personally.
We provide regular health check-ups, vaccinations, and necessary treatments, focusing on preventive care and overall health. Our HLA director, a medical doctor, has an onsite office, and we also have a fully equipped dental room and equipment available for comprehensive care.
I realized during the early years of this work that providing nutrition for hungry children was life-saving and important. Empty stomachs need to be filled…. However, I knew that we needed to do more than rescue children and fill their stomachs. We needed to fill their hearts and their minds as well

At Casa Hogar Los Angelitos, children find healing and growth, transforming their lives through resilience and determination. Their inspiring stories motivate Kevin Skeens’ Advance Sport IQ, encouraging athletes and professionals to learn from their strength and optimism.
These courageous children inspire thousands worldwide. Their stories are featured in Advance Sport IQ’s “Shatter Expectations,” proving that overcoming challenges is possible for anyone. The message is clear: adversity doesn’t define you; your response to it does.
