Casa Hogar Los Angelitos (CHLA) is a unique children’s home dedicated to providing a safe, nurturing environment for children from infancy and through higher education.
Our mission is to empower every child, regardless of their past circumstances, to reach their full potential and pursue their dreams. We strive to break the cycle of poverty by providing comprehensive, 24-hour care, including emotional, mental, and medical support. Through education, spiritual guidance, and specialized programs such as English and Expressive Arts classes, we equip children with the tools they need to build a brighter future.
The catalyst for Casa Hogar Los Angelitos (CHLA) began in 1995 when founder Nancy Nystrom, grieving the loss of her son, felt called by God to make a difference in the lives of children in need. That same year, before CHLA was officially established, a soup kitchen was opened to provide meals for children living on the streets or in extreme poverty.
In 1996, CHLA officially opened its doors in a small storefront in Manzanillo, Mexico, welcoming its first seven children. Since then, it has grown into a recognized Civil Association (non-profit) under Mexican law. While not affiliated with any religious or government organization, CHLA relies on the generosity of individuals, businesses, fundraising events, grants, and service clubs to continue its mission of transforming young lives.
We provide a secure, nurturing home for children, ensuring their safety and stability. Our family-like setting offers 24-hour care, emotional support, and a sense of belonging.
Our educational programs prepare children for a successful future, offering them the tools and opportunities to excel academically and personally.
We prioritize the health and well-being of every child by providing regular check-ups, vaccinations, and essential treatments, with a strong focus on preventive care. Our CHLA director is a medical doctor, ensuring expert oversight of our healthcare services. Additionally, we have a fully equipped dental facility, offering comprehensive oral care to support the overall health of our children.
I realized during the early years of this work that providing nutrition for hungry children was life-saving and important. Empty stomachs need to be filled…. However, I knew that we needed to do more than rescue children and fill their stomachs. We needed to fill their hearts and their minds as well
